So remember when Dup was getting up at five every morning to nail out a play in a month? Well he inspired me to shake things up with my own writing. So I wrote 1,000 five lined poems. It took me about three months 'cause I'm slow and I don't write on weekends, but the goal was twenty a day, one hundred a week. As readers of this blog know my poems tend to be a bit long and I work them to death. And even though I've been getting better, so that the India manuscript took about half as long to write as the telemarketing one, I'm still spending way too much time tinkering with re-writes to force a "coherent" narrative. I've been writing this way for so long now that I knew I needed to knock myself repeatedly in the head to reset my poetry-mind to get spontaneous and non-linear. So I whacked myself 1,000 times and it may have worked. Another thing I did to put more non-egoic intuition into the mix was pull cards from Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt's "Oblique Strategies."
One card just read "reverse," so around poem 350 I started to write every other poem in reverse order, last word first. Really forced me to see things in a different way. Non-linear indeed. I'm reading through the whole mess now and it seems there are at least a few things to work with. You figure out of 1,000 that at least 100 would be worth something, yeah? Next step I think is to go through, mine the notebooks, and try to come up with 60-75 poems. Quickly. Just some tweaking so the original wok spirit isn't leached of vitamins, fried to death. (Projects like this are what make me love this shit...)

Don't let Tim Burton hear about this

So I was chatting with my friend Mattias and he told me that in Sweden for Easter they eat a lot of eggs. Also, the children dress up as witches and go door to door asking for candy. I asked if they had the Easter Bunny. "Yes," he replied. "But not so much. Mostly witches."

Sympathy for the Kellogs

I don't know who sent me the link to this Rolling Stones commercial for Rice Krispies , but thank you! Anyone has watched any amount of TV with me knows what fits I throw when a rock tune of old has been put to ill commercial use, but this is downright cute. That's time for you. A good rebuke to my self-righteousness perhaps. Or maybe it just seems harmless because it's an original song?

I am looking for a new job. My New Year's resolution was to have a new job by now. Does anyone have any ideas? I don't want to go back to school. I don't want to work
in a boring office. A "fun" office would be okay. Maybe something out of mental health. A change. Though I love working with the people I work with. Yesterday one of my guys wrote down for his strenghts re healthy living: "drink 8 glasses of water a day, eat ranch dressing." I love that but...maybe something different now. Since '98, a bit of the ol' burnout on me edges. Not crispy yet, but like the Beatles (and, as Stephen Colbert says, Tom DeLay), I'd like to leave when I'm still "top of my game." I've got a resume. I'm checking Craig's List. And Idealist. But I'm starting to suspect those are dead ends and I'll need to start getting the newspaper. Blah. Is there anything more depressing than flipping through the Want Ads? There is not. I've just kind of lucked into most things in my life ... Will it happen again? Suggestions? Leads? Anyone want to be my patron?
